Journalist booked for rape

NEW DELHI: The editor of a news channel was booked for allegedly raping a woman employee whom he had hired as a vice-president of the company. In her complaint the woman told police that the editor forced her resign after she refused to give-in to his demands. Police said that they have recorded the woman’s statement before a magistrate and have asked the editor to join the probe.
According to the woman, the incident happened in July 2017 when the editor called her to his house. She had approached the editor with a harassment complaint against a few men at her former company in Ghaziabad. The editor had requested police to file a complaint on the basis of the woman’s statement after which the men were arrested.
In August, she was called to a five star hotel in central Delhi by the editor and sexually assaulted on the pretext of marriage. Here she came to know that he was already married with two kids. When she confronted the editor he offered to pay her money and not reveal the incident to anyone. The woman refused, following which she was threatened.
Additional CP, (New Delhi) B K Singh said that a case has been registered at the Tughlaq Road police station for rape and criminal intimidation. The woman provided details of the whatsapp conversation between her and the editor to the police. The hotel authorities also confirmed the room was booked in the editor’s name.
Meanwhile, the editor told TOI that the case was registered to malign him. “We had no one of the name working as a vice-president in the company. I am cooperating with the police, the matter would be clear once the probe is complete,” said the editor.
