National-level kabaddi player says she was raped

A 16-year-old girl who claims to be a national-level kabaddi player has alleged that she was raped by an athlete on July 9. The girl approached the police with her complaint on Monday after which a case was registered.

The girl, a resident of north Delhi, claimed she wasn’t conscious when the incident happened. “She said she only recalls seeing a huge room. She doesn’t know where exactly it happened,” said a senior police officer.

The officer said that the girl told the police that on July 9, the accused, aged between 35-40, picked her up from near Chhatrasal Stadium in his car.

Sent for medical exam

“He made her eat or drink something after which she fell unconscious. On July 10, she said that he threatened her and then dropped her off at a bus stand,” the officer said.

The girl claimed that initially she was too scared to tell anyone about the incident but finally decided to take action and approach the police on Monday.

After receiving the complaint, the girl was sent for medical examination at Lok Nayak Hospital from where she was referred to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.

“Based on her complaint, we have registered a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the IPC, and the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act). We are looking for the accused,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere.
