Tarun Tejpal to Appear for In-Camera Trial in Rape Case Today

Tarun Tejpal, ‘Tehelka’s’ editor-in-chief and rape accused, will be appearing before a sessions court in north Goa’s Mapusa town, for an in-camera trial at 2:30 pm on Thursday,7 September, 2017, according to media reports.
The court had granted Tejpal’s plea under CrPC Section 327(2) to conduct the proceedings in the rape case in-camera.
The journalist’s lawyers had sought to bar the media from covering the trial, filing an application under Section 327(3) of the CrPC (which allows for in-camera trial of rape cases). The court had granted the same on 16 June 2017.
A woman journalist working with Tehelka magazine had accused Tejpal of raping her during an event in Goa in 2013.
He has been charged under Sections 354(A) (sexual harassment), 341 and 342 (wrongful restraint), and 376 (rape), among others, of the Indian Penal Code.
