Three held for raping woman

Nagpur: Police have arrested three persons for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman from Mathura, who could not conceive, on the pretext of taking her to a godman. The cops have also arrested a woman in connection with the case.
Before raping the woman, the accused robbed the victim at knife point in a rented room at Godhani and also gave her anesthetic medicine on Monday night.
The accused have been identified as Mathura residents Saroj Lodhi (30) and her husband Mukdam (42), Ramesh Gaikwad (40) and his driver Eknath Bhagwat (55), both residents of Aurangabad. They were produced before the court on Wednesday, which remanded them in police custody till Friday.
After regaining consciousness, the survivor somehow managed to escape on the early hours of Tuesday and got the address of the nearest police station from passersby. She reached Mankapur police station and narrated the incident to the cops. Thereafter, police registered an offence of gang rape against the trio and slapped relevant charges on the woman accused.
Police said Gaikwad was a contractor and Mukdam worked as a labourer. The survivor couldn’t conceive after 10 years of marriage and, hence, talked to Saroj about it. Saroj then took her to Sagar in MP on August 17. Saroj told her that she would help her meet a godman, who has some super natural powers. Both the women reached Nagpur on August 22.
Saroj stole the survivor’s ATM card, Rs15,000 in cash and gold valuables at knife point.
